Sankar Chakraborti
Chief Executive Officer

Sankar is leading Acuité's transformation from a full service credit rating agency to a technology and innovation driven knowledge company. Sankar has two & half decades of experience in developing and selling data, analytics, risk management, credit ratings, and financial research solutions. Sankar is an Independent Director on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation. He has been a member of the Working Group constituted by the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Board of India for recommending the provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. He is also a member of FICCI's Capital Markets Committee and IBA's Standing Committee on MSMEs. Sankar holds a Master’s in Business Management and has a Bachelor’s degree with Physics major.

Sankar's hobby is travelling & photography. He loves to read about science, psychology & the economic history of India.

Suman Chowdhury
Chief Analytical Officer

As the Chief Analytical Officer (CAO), Suman is responsible for ratings execution, analytical quality and thought leadership at Acuité. With an aggregate experience well over two decades in credit ratings, research and risk, he has worked in leadership roles in ICRA and CRISIL (Indian subsidiaries of Moody’s and S&P) before joining Acuité. He has also worked in the banking sector as Group Head in Credit Risk Management Group of ICICI Bank. Suman’s past roles have given him a solid exposure to corporate and infrastructure, financial sector as well as structured finance ratings. Suman is an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta and a graduate in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

His hobbies include reading and travelling.

Antony Jose
Chief Rating Officer

As the Chief Rating Officer, Antony is responsible for governance processes and adherence to extant regulatory guidelines. He is in charge of rating committees, rating administration and investor outreach. Antony has an overall work-experience of two decades, spanning roles in Business Development, Rating Operations, and Regulatory Compliance. Prior to Acuité, he worked with CRISIL, and edutech start-ups like iDiscoveri (XSEED). He is a Post Graduate in Business Management from S P Jain Institute of Management Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai.

Antony likes to read, watch movies and swim.

Gaurav Bhutiani
Vice President & National Head
Business Development

Gaurav leads the business development function across all verticals of the company. He has over 13 years of experience into Key Account Management and Business Development across credit rating, banking & IT consulting industries, and experience in team building, improving profitability and value proposition of a business. He holds an MBA from NMIMS, Mumbai, LLB from Government Law College, Mumbai and a B.E. – Information Science & Engineering degree from M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru.

Gaurav is an avid squash/badminton player and enjoys travelling.

Karan Mehrishi
Lead Economist

Karan Mehrishi is the Lead Economist at Acuité. He is the author of the business book, "The India Collective: What India is really all about”, published in the year 2014. His opinions have appeared in the Nikkei Asian Review, The Diplomat, The New Indian Express, Forbes among several other business publications. Karan was a Hearst Fellowship Fund Scholar as well as John Curley Annual Fund Scholar at the Columbia University. He received his MA in the Business and Economics concentration from Columbia University, New York. He also holds an MBA in International Management from the House of Finance (HoF) at Goethe University, Frankfurt, spending a semester at Tongji University, Shanghai.

Karan's hobby is reading about combustion engines and automotive engineering. 

Chitra Mohan
Vice President - Compliance & Company Secretary

Chitra Mohan has been with Acuité since its inception in 2005. An associate member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), she has over 15 years of experience in the field of secretarial, legal and corporate compliance. Apart from being a Key Managerial Personnel, she is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing corporate and regulatory compliance matters as well as internal policies and procedures.

Her hobbies include reading, listening to music and travelling.

Mr. G S R K Rao

Mr. G S R K Rao is associated with Acuité as Legal Advisor since 2014. Mr. Rao has an overall experience of over 50 years. He was a founding member of CRISIL and was associated with the company for 24 years and held positions including Executive Director and Chief Rating Officer. Prior to that has worked with Bank of India for 25 years and had overseas stints during his tenure at the bank. During his tenure at Bank of India and CRISIL, Mr. Rao was a Member of several committees appointed by the Ministry of Finance, GOI, RBI and SEBI. After studying Economics, Mr. Rao pursued his passion for Law. He is an Advocate, Bombay High Court and specialises in Corporate Law.

Mr. V Chandrasekaran

Mr. V Chandrasekaran has an overall experience of nearly 40 years in Industry and Development Banking. He superannuated as the Executive Director of SIDBI. He has long and varied experience in policy formulation, development, financing of projects and NBFCs. Mr. Chandrasekaran has had a long association with Acuité and is a member of the Appeal Committee. He was a member on the boards of a few organizations and is associated with National Stock Exchange as a Member of the Grievance Redressal Committee. He is also a member of the Credit Committee of an NBFC. Mr. Chandrasekaran is a graduate in mechanical engineering and holds a master’s degree in financial management from JBIMS.

Mr. Samirendra Chatterjee

Mr. Samirendra Chatterjee is an IAS (Retd.) officer of 1976 batch and is a former Secretary to Government of India. In a career spanning 37 years, he has worked in the Ministries / Departments of Agriculture, Industries, Commerce, Transport, Finance, Social Justice Labour, Coal in the State / Central government. He was Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Member (Private Investment) in National Highways Authority of India and Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.

Mr. K Jayshankar

Mr. K. Jayshankar (Jay) is the Managing Director of Empowered Learning Systems Private Limited (which he set up in 1992 after a bright and rewarding stint with the Tata Group) which focuses on Consulting, Training, Organisation Processes & Coaching. A Certified Management Consultant (CMC) with over 30 years' experience in industry, he specializes in strategic planning, leadership development, change management, and empowering learning throughout organisations. Further, he has been an Executive Coach for senior business managers for many years.

Besides his various stints as visiting faculty at various management schools, Jay is a member of different professional bodies, and has been a speaker at several international conferences in Japan, USA, Panama, Netherlands, Egypt & South Africa.

Jay is a graduate from the Madras Christian College (majoring in economics, with mathematics and statistics as additional subjects), a post-graduate from the reputed Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai (specializing in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations), and holds a Law degree. In 1999, he was one of the chosen few to be selected for the prestigious Chevening Gurukul scholarship to the London School of Economics on Global Leadership & Excellence.

He has also organized & facilitated India’s first Corporate Leadership Expedition Journey (‘Reach for the Sky’) when a team scaled Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest peak at over 19,340 feet) on August 15th, 2007, timing with India’s 60th Independence celebration. An avid adventure buff, Jay is also a sky diver and a marathoner.

Our exciting journey started in 2005 with rating of bank borrowers most of whom were small and medium enterprises. At that time, credit rating was a concept known only to large issuers of capital market instruments. Since then, like a caterpillar transforms itself into a beautiful butterfly, we transformed to rate bonds, bank facilities of large corporates and issuers across industries. Along came many achievements - SEBI Registration in 2011, RBI accreditation in 2012, 50,000 ratings in 2018, 5,000 Bond and Bank Loan Ratings in 2017, launch of India's first Android and iPhone app to disseminate rating, tamper-proof QR-code-enabled rating rationales, and SMERA Terminal to name a few.

Now is the time to re-emphasize our increasing footprint across all segments of ratings through the launch of our new name - 'Acuité'.

The name has changed. The spirit of upholding highest standards of analytical rigour, continuous improvement, excellence in our processes and quest for innovation remains the same. We would like to re-emphasize that we will continue to work hard to provide independent, unbiased and timely opinion of highest standard.
